Longevity in Sardinia

Extra virgin olive oil, fresh goat cheese, fresh herbs, homemade bread (mainly Pane Carasau), marinated olives, fresh seasonal vegetable and fresh seasonal fruits are a must on every Sardinian dining table.

We visited the island for two weeks, and during our stay we visited many olive groves and were so privileged to taste some of the finest extra virgin olive oil. We learned a lot about the olive cultivar on the island, and the challenges due to the changing weather conditions from heavy rain (like this August) to the severe drought and had the chance to see the wild olive trees which are mainly concentrated in Santa Maria Navarrese.

Cooking and eating with the locals in the country side took us to the next level of the art of pairing food with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO)

The opportunity to interact with the local people in the villages, highlighted the impact of the diet on the island as one of the reasons that people live long besides the active life style, the strong family ties and the immense care that provided for the elderly people.

No wonder parts of Sardinia belong to the 5 blue zones in the world, where people live much longer than average with many areas have the highest number of centenarians (people who live over 100).

Acknowledging that, the overall positive factors for longevity are very complex and have been drawing lot of interest and attention from the worlds' top universities and research centers.

For sure olive oil is one key element in the recipe of good health and longevity. Therefore at our next tasting event, we will present and let you experience the best Sardinian extra virgin olive oil which we did identify during our tour.
